On January 3, 1946, at Santa Anita, champion jockey George Woolf was riding a horse called Please Me in the fourth race
While rounding the clubhouse turn, Woolf suddenly fell from Please Me and struck his head hard on the ground. He suffered a concussion, and died the next day. He was 35 years old
Please Me continued on to the wire without his jockey
