Royal Academy
1987 bay colt by *Nijinsky, out of Crimson Saint
Though lightly raced, Royal Academy was a two-time champion at three. He was trained by the legendary Vincent O’Brien to victories in the 1990 July Cup and Tetrarch Stakes, but he remains best known for his win in the 1990 Breeder’s Cup Mile. For his efforts, he was named Champion 3-Year-Old Colt and Champion 3-Year-Old Miler
At stud at Coolmore Australia, his best get were fellow Breeder’s Cup Mile winner Val Royal, 2006 Hong Kong Horse of the Year Bullish Luck, 1997 1000 Guineas winner Sleepytime, and multiple Grade 2 winning filly Gotta Have Her. Perhaps his most lasting addition to the breed was his 1999 Australian stakes winning son Bel Esprit, known more today as the sire of the unbeatable Black Caviar
